สายธารฝันซ้ำๆว่าเธอฝันเห็นครอบครัวหนึ่งที่มีพี่ชายน้อยชายสามคนอาศัยอยู่ท้าหมู่บ้านที่ห่างออกจากตัวหมู่ไปเป็นลี้ในบ้านดินทีมีสามห้องนอนบนเนื้อที่ห้าหมู่ที่บิดามารดาทิ้งเอาไว้ให้พี่ชายมีอาชีพเป็นพรานป่า

แม่ทัพหนุ่มหนิงเฟยอวี้ถึงคราวต้องแต่งภรรยา สะใภ้ที่ท่านแม่ของเขาเลือกมานั้นเห็นว่าเป็นสตรีที่เหมาะสมจะเป็นภรรยาและมารดาที่ดีในอนาคต เป็นคุณหนูในห้องหอผู้เพียบพร้อม แต่ไฉนเมื่อแต่งไป (แค่คืนเข้าหอก็รู้) แล้วกับรู้สึกว่าคำว่าเรียบร้อยอ่อนหวานนั้นช่างห่างไกลจากนางยิ่งนัก ที่เหมาะกับนางควรจะเป็นซุกซนทะเล้นซะมากกว่า คำว่าเรียบร้อยอ่อนหวานนั้นช่างห่างไกลนัก แต่ความขี้อ่อนขี้ประจบกับทำได้ดีทีเดียว

"เธออยากได้สมบัติมาก จนต้องยอมเสนอตัวมาเป็นนางบำเรอของฉันเลยเชียวเหรอ" เสียงหนักแน่นดังขึ้นจากทางด้านหลัง ทำให้แพงขวัญสะดุ้งจนต้องหันกลับไปมอง ก่อนจะเห็นร่างกำยำในชุดลำลองของเจ้านายหนุ่ม ที่ยืนอยู่ใกล้แค่เพียงเอื้อมมือ "คุณอรรถ!" "เธอไม่คิดว่าการลงทุนของเธอมันมีความเสี่ยงเหรอ เพราะถ้ามันผิดพลาดเธออาจจะขาดทุนย่อยยับ" "หนูไม่เข้าใจว่าคุณพูดอะไร หนูขอตัวกลับห้องนะคะ" ร่างบางหมุนตัวจะเดินจากไป แต่ถูกเจ้าของมือใหญ่คว้าเอวบางไว้ ก่อนจะกระชากเข้ามาในอ้อมกอดของตัวเอง "คุณอรรถ! ปล่อยหนูนะคะ" "เธอคิดว่าเธอมีอะไรดีพอให้ฉันพิจารณาเหรอ แค่คุณสมบัติของนางบำเรอเธอยังมีไม่ครบ แล้วเธอจะเอาอะไรมาผูกมัดใจฉันให้อยู่กับเธอ ความสามารถแบบนางบำเรออ่อนหัดของเธอน่ะเหรอ เหอะ... ช่างน่าขำ" แพงขวัญจ้องหน้าเขาด้วยสายตาตัดพ้อ จนน้ำตาเอ่อไหลออกมา กิริยาวาจาที่เขาแสดงถึงการบั่นทอนคุณค่าของเธอ มันช่างสร้างความเจ็บช้ำน้ำใจให้แก่เธออย่างแสนสาหัส "แล้วนางบำเรอของคุณอรรถ ต้องเจนจัดถึงขนาดไหนเหรอคะ คุณถึงได้คิดว่าหนูขาดคุณสมบัติข้อนั้น"
