Chapter 25 Savior

Dora's POV

The injured pup's faint whimpers cut through the silence of the forest. I stroked his fur gently, murmuring words of comfort, but his breaths came in ragged pants. Blood still seeped from the vicious metal trap embedded in his hind leg.

Glancing desperately around the deserted gully again, I called out "Help! Please, anyone!" But only my echo answered.

The sky rumbled overhead, and fat drops of rain began to patter down between the trees. Within moments, the drizzle turned into a downpour, drenching my hair and clothes. I hunched over the prone wolf pup, trying to shield his shivering body with my own as rivulets streamed down my face.

The pup's whines grew weaker as he succumbed to pain and blood loss. Panic clawed at my throat. At this rate, he would perish here within the hour if I couldn't get him free and find help. I refused to let that happen.
