Pero nang tuluyan siyang makatapat sa puntod ng mama niya, tila wala na siyang pakialam sa init ng araw, sa malamig na hangin, o sa kahit anong nasa paligid niya. Tahimik siyang nakatayo sa harap ng simpleng lapida habang nakatitig sa mga tuyot nang bulaklak na nakapatong doon. “It’s been a while since dumalaw ako sa ’yo, Mom,” mahina niyang sabi, nanginginig ang boses. Dahan-dahan niyang pinalitan ng sariwang bouquet ang lumang bulaklak. “Kahit hindi ako madalas makapunta rito, lagi kitang dala sa puso ko. Umaasa pa rin ako na balang araw… magkikita ulit tayo.”

Aya holding my hand. Aya crying in the rain. My chest tightened painfully. She wasn’t there that night. The realization hit me like a punch. “Aya wasn’t even there,” I whispered. My mother said nothing. “She had nothing to do with it.” “Her existence was enough.” The cruelty of those words made my stomach churn. “You destroyed her life for nothing.” “I solved the problem.” “No,” paos kong sabi. “You created one.” My mother stepped closer. “You’re emotional right now.”

Huminga muna ako nang malalim, bago siya nilapit sa akin, at hinalikan ulit siya ng malambing. "The Mother had his son and the Son has a Mother. Nag-angat ako ng tingin sa mga bituin na kumikislap, kasabay ng buwan na nagbibigay liwanag sa lahat. Muli ay tumulo ang aking luha, si mama ang dahilan. Ngumiti ako ng mapakla sa kalangitan na animo'y naro'n si mama. "I miss you, Mama," bulong ko habang nakatingin sa buwan. "How have you been? Were you doing good there? Are you having a good rest? Was it fun? If it does, then continue having fun, okay? Don't mind me here. You raise a strong woman. I wouldn't let this lose me. Be happy there though I know you already found your happiness.True happiness to be precise. I love you, mama."

She passes me the other flower that is meant of my mother. "Sana sinabi mo na dito tayo papunta. Nagdala sana ako ng paboritong dessert ng ina mo," ngiwi niya sa akin, at mabilis na umiwas sa titig ko. Napailing na ako at sabay na kaming humabkang patungo sa puntod ng ina ko. "Don't worry, mahal. My parents are living souls now. They could no longer taste the food you will offer them," I joked.
