The council wants to harness it, a rebel faction wants to flee toward it, and Leo gets caught in the middle because his knowledge suggests the Pulse isn't a natural phenomenon. The book cleverly uses the claustrophobic setting to explore how scarcity of resources and information warps human ethics, all while the mystery of what actually caused the apocalypse looms in the background. I found the last third, where they finally risk an expedition, to be a bit rushed compared to the meticulous internal politics, but that's a minor gripe.

I was hunting for a legit copy of 'Megaton' forever and finally pieced it together. It's not on the big mainstream platforms like Amazon or Kobo, which is probably why it feels so elusive. My breakthrough came when I dug into the author's personal site and social media links; they had a direct purchase link that routed to a smaller, indie digital storefront.
