All lifeforms--humans in particular are social creatures because we could never live all by ourselves given that we need to complement each other's shortcomings.
And...Everyone just wanted to exist!
And that is why we would search for a group of our own where we could have a sense of belonging that give us the feeling of not being alone. This is all achieve through connecting to others and this connections are formed through our similarities. And that is why, either subconsciously or consciously, we constantly influence each other to change them into our kindred. And in this case, a subtle competition would occur where the most influencial and unyielding would prevail.
